Luxury Sumba 7D6N Package: West to East Island Crossing
The luxury Sumba 7D6N package is a seven-day, six-night island crossing operated by Indonesia Juara Trip: fly into Tambolaka (TMC), base three to four nights at a West or Southwest resort, cross the island via Central Sumba’s megalith villages, spend two to three nights near Waingapu, and fly out of WGP. Land-only pricing is quoted on request.
Seven days is the first duration where crossing Sumba stops being a compromise. The island is larger than Bali, the interior roads are rough, and a West-to-East transfer eats most of a day, which is why our 4D3N, 5D4N and 6D5N private trips stay on one coast. The route reasoning lives in our West-East Sumba luxury travel route guide; this page is the bookable product.
What does the luxury Sumba 7D6N package actually cover?
Three things: a private driver-guide for all seven days, a route that arrives at one airport and departs from the other, and resort bases from the island’s luxury tier (NIHI Sumba, Lelewatu, Cap Karoso, Maringi or a boutique villa). Resorts are accommodation options we book on your behalf, not partners; availability is subject to confirmation. Tambolaka-in, Waingapu-out is the default because the flagship resorts cluster around TMC; the reverse works if your Bali flights line up better.
| Duration | Land-only per person (as of 2026, subject to change) | Coasts covered |
|---|---|---|
| 6D5N | On request, resort not included | One side |
| 7D6N crossing | On request, resort not included | West or Southwest, Central, East |
| 8D7N crossing | On request, resort not included | Same, plus a spare resort day |
How does the seven-day route run day by day?
Drive times are indicative. Sumba’s roads change with the rain, and a village or waterfall stop can stretch a block by an hour; your driver-guide reshuffles the day rather than rushing it.
| Day | Base | What happens | Indicative road time |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | West or Southwest resort | Daily domestic flight Bali (DPS) to Tambolaka, roughly 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes; private transfer; sunset on the beach | 50-90 minutes, conditions vary |
| 2 | Same | Wanokaka coast: Marosi and Kerewei beaches, Lapopu waterfall. Kodi-based guests swap in Weekuri lagoon and Mandorak | 2-3 hours, split |
| 3 | Same | Adat village morning at Ratenggaro with a licensed local host; resort afternoon | 2-3 hours |
| 4 | Same, or a second West-side resort | Resort day: surf, horses, spa. Changing resort here makes it a three-base crossing | 0-90 minutes |
| 5 | Crossing to East Sumba | Via Waikabubak to the Central Sumba megalith villages; Matayangu waterfall detour if the track is dry; Waingapu area by late afternoon | 4-6 hours, three blocks |
| 6 | East Sumba boutique stay | Wairinding hills at sunrise, Puru Kambera savanna, Walakiri mangroves at sunset. Tanggedu canyon is the full-day alternative | 2-3 hours (Tanggedu 4-5) |
| 7 | Depart WGP | Morning at leisure, transfer to Umbu Mehang Kunda Airport, fly to Bali | 15-30 minutes |
Day 5 punishes an overloaded plan, so we schedule two village stops at most and keep Matayangu conditional.
Which resort combinations work for a 7D6N crossing?
The West and Southwest coasts hold the flagship properties, all within the Tambolaka catchment: Lelewatu about 63 km from TMC (indicative 1-1.5 hours), NIHI around 60-90 minutes by road, Cap Karoso about 50 minutes by the resort’s own estimate. Waingapu’s boutique tier is smaller and simpler, so expect a well-run boutique stay rather than a NIHI-grade villa on the East side; we name the options on the quote once dates are known.
| Combination | Nights split | Best for | Indicative resort rates (never part of the land-only price) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cap Karoso (Karoso Beach, Kodi) + Lelewatu (Wanokaka) + East Sumba boutique | 2 + 2 + 2 | Two coastlines before the crossing | Both quoted on request by the resorts for your dates and room type; some Cap Karoso offers carry a three-night minimum |
| NIHI Sumba (Hoba Wawi, Wanokaka) + East Sumba boutique | 4 + 2 | One flagship anchor, then the wild East | Villa rates quoted on request by the resort, excluding 21 percent tax and service |
| Lelewatu + East Sumba boutique | 4 + 2 | Spa, pool and horseback at a gentler price | Quoted on request by the resort for your dates; 27 rooms |
| Maringi + Cap Karoso + East Sumba boutique | 2 + 2 + 2 | Eco-oriented travellers who still want Kodi’s beach | Maringi confirmed on quote only |
What does the 7D6N cost, and what is included?
We publish only the Indonesia Juara Trip land-only ladder, and 7D6N is quoted on request. The nearest comparable, the 6D5N private trip, is also quoted on request, resort not included. The crossing adds a seventh driver-guide day and a one-way transfer to a different airport, so expect 7D6N to sit above the 6D5N trip you would otherwise pick. Full pricing: Sumba trip cost.
Land-only inclusions, as of 2026:
- Private air-conditioned vehicle and English-speaking driver-guide, Day 1 through Day 7
- Airport pickup at TMC and drop-off at WGP, or the reverse; fuel, parking, driver accommodation
- Village contributions and a licensed local host at Ratenggaro and the Central Sumba stops
- Route planning, resort reservations on your behalf, pre-departure briefing
Not included:
- Resort accommodation, quoted separately per property and confirmed by the team
- Domestic flights DPS-TMC and WGP-DPS, bookable at cost on request; schedules change, so departure times are never fixed in advance
- Meals outside resort board, personal expenses, travel insurance
- Resort-run experiences, for example NIHI’s “Sunrise Splash” horse programme at IDR 9,400,000 per person, subject to 21% tax and service charge, on NIHI Sumba’s Experiences Price List 2026/2027 (checked 2026-09-16)
How rough are the roads, honestly?
Rough enough that a self-drive rental is the wrong tool. West coast resort roads are manageable; the Central Sumba tracks to the megalith villages and Matayangu are not, and the trans-island road is long rather than dangerous. A driver-guide who knows which section washed out last week is the practical way across.
NIHI defines its 2026 green season as 12 January to 31 March, when interior tracks are softest, so we build extra slack into Day 5 for those dates. Peak demand runs 1 July to 31 August and 29 December to 7 January, when resort availability, not the road, is the constraint. Village visits run on the host’s terms: licensed local host, set photography hours, no drones without permission; our Sumba cultural etiquette guide covers the specifics.
How does booking work?
- Send the brief. WhatsApp or the form below: dates, party size, preferred direction, one or two resort preferences.
- We check the pieces. Resort availability, domestic flight days on your dates, green-season slack if it applies.
- You receive a written route. Day-by-day plan, the 7D6N land-only price, and each resort as its own line so you can swap a property without re-pricing the trip.
- Deposit confirms. Resort deposits follow each property’s policy; the land portion follows our terms.
- Pre-departure brief. Packing for two coasts, village etiquette, your driver-guide’s contact.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best luxury Sumba trip package for 7 days?
For seven days the crossing is the package to pick: three to four nights on the West or Southwest coast, a Central Sumba megalith day, and two to three nights near Waingapu, departing from WGP. It is the shortest duration that sees both coasts without back-tracking. Shorter stays should stay on one side; the 6D5N page covers the single-coast version.
Can I combine Cap Karoso and Nihi Sumba in one trip?
Yes. Both sit in the Tambolaka catchment on different stretches of coast: Cap Karoso at Karoso Beach in Kodi, Southwest Sumba, about 50 minutes from TMC by the resort’s estimate, and NIHI at Hoba Wawi in Wanokaka, West Sumba. A 2+2 split before the crossing works. Both are accommodation options, not partners; the team confirms availability and quotes rates separately.
Can luxury Sumba packages include flights?
The land-only ladder excludes flights. Indonesia Juara Trip can book the Bali-Tambolaka and Waingapu-Bali domestic sectors at cost on request. Both are roughly one-hour flights, but timetables change through the year, so the team checks the schedule for your exact dates before the route is fixed rather than promising departure times in advance.
Should I choose 7 days or 5 days for a luxury Sumba itinerary?
Choose five days if one coast and one resort are enough; the 5D4N private trip is quoted on request. Choose seven if you want both coasts: the crossing takes a full day, so anything shorter than 7D6N leaves East Sumba with a single usable day. Seven is the honest minimum for Tambolaka-in, Waingapu-out.
