Sumba Luxury Surf and Stay Package: 4, 5 or 7 Days

A Sumba luxury surf and stay package pairs a resort base in West or Southwest Sumba with dawn surf sessions and afternoon land touring, over 4 to 7 days. Indonesia Juara Trip arranges the driver-guide, touring days and resort booking; the land programme is quoted on request for your dates, duration, guest count and inclusions, with the resort quoted separately.

This page is for the surfer who is not travelling alone. Your partner or family does not surf, so the day is split: you take the dawn, you both take the afternoon.

One honesty line first. Sumba’s best-known wave, Occy’s Left, sits in front of Nihi Sumba and runs under the resort’s own rules and a daily surfer cap. Access is decided by the resort, never by us, and is not guaranteed. Beginners are welcome, but the famous breaks are not learning waves; we route learners to resort-run lessons and fill the touring programme instead.

How does a 4, 5 or 7-day surf-and-stay rhythm run?

Times are indicative and move with tide, swell and the resort’s own schedule.

SlotIndicative timeSurferNon-surfing partner
Dawn session05:30-09:00Paddle out at the nearest break, resort or publicSunrise horse ride, spa, slow breakfast
Midday09:00-15:00Late breakfast, rest, second short session if the tide allowsPool, reading, lunch
Afternoon15:00-18:00Together: village, lagoon, beach or waterfall with the driver-guideSame

Night count changes how far the afternoons reach and whether you move base.

Adat village visits assume a licensed local host, set photography hours and drone restrictions; the driver-guide handles all three.

Which resorts put you closest to the waves?

Resorts are accommodation options we book on your behalf, not partners. Availability is subject to confirmation; rates are indicative and dated.

Lelewatu is the practical West base when Nihi is full or the wave cap decides it: public breaks at dawn, driver waiting. Cap Karoso puts the Kodi coast and Weekuri within afternoon range. Before choosing, read the Occy’s Left Nihi surf guide for how the Nihi wave actually works, and the wider Sumba for surfers, divers and soft adventurers in luxury piece.

When is the swell worth the flight?

Sumba’s west and southwest coasts face the Indian Ocean, so the dry season carries the most consistent groundswell; the green season is smaller, quieter and cheaper.

WindowSwell and windDemand and ratesPlanning note
May-September (dry season)Most consistent groundswell; trade winds generally favour west-facing breaksJuly-August peak demand; Nihi peak 1 July-31 August 2026Book the resort first, then flights

Swell is a forecast, not a promise. A flat morning still leaves a full afternoon.

What does a Sumba luxury surf and stay package cost?

The only operator prices are Indonesia Juara Trip’s own, on our Sumba trip cost page. Its published Sumba Private Trip 4D3N costs USD 390-700 per person depending on group size (USD 700 for 2 pax, USD 390 for 8 pax), in a table labelled 2025 with twin-share hotel included; other lengths are quoted on request.

How does booking work?

  1. Send your surf dates and level. WhatsApp your dates, nights, level (intermediate, advanced or learning), board preference and what the non-surfers enjoy.
  2. We check the swell window and resort availability. For Nihi we ask the resort directly about wave access and the daily cap; for Lelewatu or Cap Karoso we confirm rooms and dawn drive times.
  3. You receive a two-line quote. Land-only tier on one line, resort rate on another, inclusions and exclusions spelled out. Totals are confirmed by the team.
  4. Deposit and confirmation. Deposit terms follow the quote and our terms; the resort booking is made in your name on confirmation.
  5. Pre-trip brief. Bali (DPS) to Tambolaka (TMC) is a daily domestic flight of roughly 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes; schedules change, so we advise on timing close to departure, plus packing, adat etiquette and drone rules.
  6. Arrival. Your driver-guide meets you at TMC. First dawn session is the next morning.

Send your surf dates and level to Indonesia Juara Trip

Message the concierge on WhatsApp at 628119941919 or email sales@indonesiajuara.asia with your dates, level and who is travelling. Indonesia Juara Trip operates the land side and books resort stays on your behalf, subject to availability. Wave access at private resort breaks is decided by the resort. Prices as of 2026, subject to change.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Sumba resort is best for a surf and stay package?

Nihi Sumba if you want a wave in front of your villa and accept the resort’s daily cap and rules. Lelewatu suits surfers on a tighter budget who will drive to public Wanokaka breaks at dawn. Cap Karoso works for a Kodi-coast base with strong afternoons. Availability is confirmed per stay.

Can a non-surfing partner enjoy a Sumba surf and stay package?

Yes, and the package is designed for that. Mornings are theirs: sunrise horse rides, spa, pool or a slow breakfast at the resort. Afternoons are shared: adat villages with a licensed host, Weekuri lagoon, Lapopu waterfall or a sunset at Marosi. Nobody waits on a beach for three hours.

Is wave access at Nihi Sumba included in the package?

No. Access to Occy’s Left is governed by Nihi’s own rules and a daily surfer cap, and it is granted by the resort, not by Indonesia Juara Trip. We ask the resort on your behalf when we check availability, and we tell you plainly if access is not confirmed so you can choose another base.

When is the best swell season for a Sumba luxury surf trip?

May to September brings the most consistent Indian Ocean groundswell, with July and August also the busiest months and Nihi’s 2026 peak rate period. October and November offer easing swell and glassy mornings. The December to March green season is smaller and less predictable but quieter, with lower resort rates.
